2. Heini Lehväslaiho - Galleria Solis

Niinkoskentie 2, Koskenkylän saha
I draw my inspiration from the oneness of people, animals and all of nature. I often depict animals as strong and people as vulnerable. Sometimes animals and people mix. Despite all their imperfections, humans are part of nature, which is perfect. I have been working full-time as a visual artist since 2017, when I moved from Helsinki to Koskenkylä Sawmill in Pernaja. I graduated with a Master of Arts from the Department of Photography of the University of Art and Design in 2001 and had a twenty-year career as a portrait photographer for artists and writers. What I enjoy most about my work is following my intuition and learning. I can start from any starting point and there is always a journey ahead of me, the end of which I cannot know.

I am a visual artist based in Porvoo, combining traditional oil painting techniques with a contemporary, nature-inspired perspective. My paintings explore the depth of light and color, as well as the relationship between humans and the environment. I work without plastic and emphasize sustainability both in my materials and themes. The year 2025 deepens my artistic expression, where the relationship between nature and humans, the tension between hope and dystopia, and the meaning of a good life intertwine. My studio is located in Pappilanmäki, Porvoo, at Lähdekuja 3. Please note that the lot is on a slope, which may make access challenging. Also, be careful not to confuse Lähdekuja with another similarly named location. Warmly welcome!

I live and work in the South of Finland in Porvoo. I paint in oil and acrylics. I am a Master of Art and graduated the university of Art and Design in Helsinki 2001. The most important element to me is the color. It is an adventure to mix colors and see how they match with each other. I love to put strength and power in my paintings too and my ambition is to make the audience feel the energy so they can be happy, healthy and safe. Art needs observers to be alive. That is why the interaction with the audience is so great and exciting. I prefer painting portraits of women and I often paint delicate ladies in various moods. I, Carola Hägg, am a visual artist, live and work in Vessö in Porvoo. I have been panting for almost 20 years, the last 4 as a professional: my studio is my workplace nearly every day of the year. The main reason for my art is to bring joy. In a way I am a bit divided with my art: on one side I love the figurative and on the other I have a passion for the expressive, abstract expression. At the moment my main focus is on the colourful, humorous birds. I use acrylic paint, watercolour, ink, charcoal, graphite and selfprintied ricepaper in my paintings. I work on canvas, paper and wood and the paintings are of different sizes. The smaller abstract paintings are often cropped from bigger papers painted in acrylics.

My painting process is intuitive and expressive. Weather phenomena, events caused by global warming, etc. are the subjects of my paintings. The ash of my painting material is genuine, passionate and firm. The ash paint manufacturing process is comprehensive. I burn all types of wood separately, so I can keep the tones pure. To me, ash is more like a pigment from which I mix my colors. Like a stream of life that carries along. In the afternoons, the feeling explodes on the canvas. Ashes in paintings, color swirls, storms, drips and smokes. Shades of grey, brown and black turn bluish and reddish, sensitively hear through each other, collide with fury.

I create art intuitively and from mental landscapes. I explore relationships, emotions, roles, and stories. I have a tendency to gravitate toward dark themes and find beauty in them. Sometimes the darkness is so macabre that it becomes almost laughable. I aim to create different layers in my work, allowing the viewer to find something familiar within them. My primary mediums are printmaking, video art, photography, and comics, but at times painting feels like the only possible form of expression.

Although my works are often naturalistic, I make them expressively. In both techniques, I try to connect with my guiding idea, my will, to make visible what I am experiencing at any given moment. In printmaking, I respect line, light and shadow. In sculpture, the essence of the figure and the light and shadow tell me which direction to take again. My practice merges abstract painting, collage and digital techniques. Recent works incorporate AI-generated images based on my own paintings, which are printed and used as collage, emphasizing the physicality of the art object over the illusion of the digital image. Recurring symbols—skulls, chess pieces, and dice—reference mortality, strategy, and chance, touching on themes of control and unpredictability. While AI plays a role in my process, its limitations and ethical implications remain a central theme. Originally from the U.S., I lived in New York before moving to Helsinki. My work has been included in over 60 exhibitions internationally, with pieces in museum and private collections.

28. Aino Keinänen - Ateljee Aapeli / Kaapelitehdas

Tallberginkatu 1 E, kellarikerros, Helsinki
The main themes of Aino Keinänen's art are equality and nature, which she strives to nurture by exploring the different dimensions of humanity: Animality, gender diversity, untouchability, land ownership, war, history, religion, culture, community, love, the chain of generations and survival have been the starting points of the projects. A surreal level is hidden in the realistic depiction of people: People are made of natural materials. The destruction of nature created by man is symbolized by a geometric pattern that eats up the earth and leaves behind the white emptiness of the paper. Nature in a person represents hope: From the inside of a stone or wooden person, all sensitivities emerge, e.g. in the form of algae, moss, flowers, fruit, insects, reptiles, resin and lava.

When I paint, I step into an area that I usually can't put words to, even though I am also a communication professional. I forget the environment - I reach for some kind of illusion of freedom. I paint with acrylic, pigment and oil colours. I also make monotypes. I sometimes paint on my journeys, especially to France, where I take regular painting trips, because it was there that I learned my art techniques twenty years ago. In painting, landscape is a timeless theme. Colour acts as a code for my landscapes and an opener for interpretation. My works are sometimes reduced, almost monochromatic and impressionistically expressive, sometimes almost completely abstract, comprehensive atmospheres. Next to the horizons, I paint fairy tale pictures of sorts.

My name is Sari-Aino Tolonen, and I´m an encaustic artist from Helsinki. In the 2010´s I became acquainted with the Encaustic Art (beeswax art), which made a huge impression on me. I found a teacher, the artist Belén Millán from Spain. She taught me this traditional encaustic painting technique. Already during my training, I discovered that the technique provides excellent opportunities to express art because it´s suitable for both - performing and abstract art. The technique enables the tooling of various surface structures. In addition, I can paint thin layers of lumionuos light or several different layers of wax on top of each other, after which I can dig out colors from the lower layers. Indeed the technique allows a huge number of different options.

28. Tuomas Aitamurto - Kaapelitehdas

Kaapeliaukio 3, Helsinki
I have always been a hermit soul, drawing and sketching imaginary worlds since I was young. My primary mediums are oil colors, acrylics and aquarelle. The majority of my recent paintings have been characterized by an exploration of dreams, memories and different beliefs. My work draws upon a variety of sources, including art history and diverse mythologies. The act of painting allows me to investigate realms of the human subconscious by symbolism. My paintings often display fantasy inspired worlds that reflect the mundane. The creative process starts with a couple of carefully selected key ideas. Throughout the long painting journey I further study and analyze the subject, also harnessing intuition along the way. The medium of painting is the most effective method of communication for me

Nouku is a visual artist from Helsinki who combines the gems of all her previous professions in her works: Graphic Design, Craftmanship and Painting. Her methods of working also include three-dimensional painting collages and constructions as well as so-called more traditional paintings whose absurdity and strangeness in imagery are strongly linked to a surreal story about the challenges of our lives. She completed her first art studies in the USA in 1998 and most recently graduated from Vapaa Taidekoulu (Free Art School - Helsinki) in 2018.

I graduated as a visual artist in 2024 from the Minerva Art Academy in the Netherlands. I mainly paint with oil and watercolours, but I also use other materials such as textile and papier-mâché, and I also make performative works. In my art, I explore existential questions and the experience of being human. The friction between consciousness, imagination and reality creates art tinged with humor, where philosophical thinking meets the comic and confused human. The works reflect my ambivalent nature, at once serious and humorous, a mixture of misanthropy and philanthropy, personal and remote.

52. Heidi Rosenström - Studio Nybacka

I primarily work with stoneware and throw both functional ceramics and larger vessels and forms. Recently, I have also started exploring porcelain as a material. I fire my works in electric kilns at Studio Nybacka or, when the opportunity arises, in a wood-fired kiln. Wood firings are almost magical occasions. For me, ceramics is a process that involves shaping, throwing, turning, decorating, firing, glazing, and firing again. I believe there is no benefit in rushing something – it requires patience, presence, and an open mind. I hope my works carry the time, feeling, and care that I have invested in them throughout the process. In this way, I hope they radiate a calmness and clarity in their surroundings, serving as a contrast to the times we live in.

We also organize ceramics courses at our Studio. My work is displayed in the shop of Gumbostrand Konst & Form gallery shop.

I mainly make functional ceramic pieces with the goal of having beautiful and interesting pieces at home. Lately I've been interested in different forms found in nature, especially in the oceans. I yearn to try different firing methods and my favourites have been woodfiring and raku. The magic of ashes and fire creates such irresistible surfaces and colors. However, for me, the most wonderful work phase in ceramics is working with the clay itself, touching of the clay. There are so many possibilities. With clay I feel calm and forget the world around me. It gives a moment of calm in the hectic everyday.

My work often springs from perceptions of our surrounding nature and from its phenomena, but also from present political and socio economic situations. Currently I’m interested in the complexity of our perception, the puzzling concept of time and our obsession with speed and travel in an age of mass extinction. A deep awareness and worry of the ongoing climate crisis and ecological collapse can be found throughout my work. My path as an artist is interestingly winding - from the original textile design to the current, very unique works combining textiles and painting. "In this expression I feel like I've come home, it combines many things that are very important to me." I use traditional materials in my works, starting with rabbit skin glue. The actual pattern often consists of jute fabric that has already been used once. With my works, I aim for peace and simplicity with the idea that less is more. My Raku ceramics also complement the message of my paintings. "I believe that less of everything gives us peace of mind and the opportunity to see completely new things, space to think in a new way."

Painting with different tools frees me from precise brushwork, giving the desired free interpretation of the workflow. I try to create contrasts with colors and images. I express myself extensively and use a variety of techniques from paintings to photography as well as three-dimensional works. My range of colors is wide, but I always try to gain a harmonious outcome. The painting can be colorful or reduced to black-white-gray. I create visual art in my studio at Taideyhdistys Tapaus. I paint with acrylics, sometimes in very thin layers and other times in multiple thick layers on top of each other. My process involves working on several paintings simultaneously. Even though I use fast-drying acrylics, the drying time takes a while. I begin each painting intuitively, but logic guides me to apply learned and tested themes. I strive to find light and shadow. In the end, the most important thing is that the painting must be beautiful in its own way so that it remains engaging to look at! I was an invited artist at BELA, the European and Latin American Biennial in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 2023–2024, and the Artist of the Month in HTY’s online gallery in August 2023.

Working with pouring art has been particularly inspiring as it forces me to trust my intuition and stay present in the moment. I have also begun to explore colors and their effects more deeply. Each piece is a lesson for me – not just in technique, but also in my own growth as an artist and as a person. I want to continue to evolve and find new ways to express my thoughts, feelings, and experiences through art, constantly seeking new pathways and depths in my expression.

I often paint quickly in an expressionist and sometimes abstract style. My favorite technique is acrylic on canvas or MDF board, combined with ink, oil paint, or similar. I have had numerous exhibitions since 2004. As an artist, I am self-taught, and luckily, I still have a lot to learn (is it wisdom to realize that one does not know everything?). However, I do know what pleases my eye and what does not. When I start a new piece, I often have no idea what my painting will be about, and in the end, the final result surprises even me. Sometimes I feel like I am merely a tool through which my paintings come to life.

I have a diploma as an artist from The Art School of Alfa In Helsinki. For some years after my graduation I worked with guiding students in the school. My way of painting is intuitive, I love the fluid of colours on canvas. That usually makes the ground to continue painting, intuitively too. The final artwork can be abstract or there can be some performing aspects. Usually I use acryl-, oil- or pigment colours. Silence is very important to me; it creates a meditative space for working and it permits the flow in working. During the process I want to give the process opportunity to come "as it wishes".

I face small everyday considerations or large entities. The theme of my works is to make the invisible visible and to find new perspectives on everyday life. I use the same idea when I write. I thought about words and their suitability to describe the world I want my readers to experience. The most interesting observations arise from a different point of view. Art and design complement each other: art liberates, design structures. The questions I explore relate to a holistic understanding of art, recognizing my own artistic language, and identifying the factors that shape these processes. I work at the intersection of visual art and textile art. My business, PINTA design (1998), produces design-based art projects, including the innovative Reblok mini-textile concept, an art play. Here we meet in a studio with a slightly different character; it is clean with older furniture and with wallpaper and art on the walls. This is my base to fulfil my dream - the dream of creating beauty! Clay is my tool or maybe I am its tool? I am hugely inspired by nature and the Fibonacci sequence keeps coming back. I currently work with 19 different clays; mixed stoneware and porcelain and I make my own glazes. In my creation, I move in the borderland between utility ceramics and pure art. I produce on a small scale. No piece is exactly the same as another, but my goal is to create unique objects that each contain their own feeling. A feeling that makes you happy when you hold it in your hands - ‘Feathers - a little piece of beauty for every day’

She paints as she lives, what she sees, her life and surroundings. THE BICCEST is also known as Barok. After home drawing classes he started to study industrial design, architecture and infographic art which enabled him to experiment and find his style. The paintings of Hilja Roivainen investigate the attractiveness of a natural or built environment and its psychological impact on human beings. The visual image of the landscape has many dimensions in the painting: it becomes a meditative space filled with imagination and encounters of memories. The experience of a natural place is recreated from and coloured by memory, loosely basing on photographic documentation. The paintings are constructed by a layering of glazes and oil washes, applying fluid marks in contrast with gestural impasto, or through pouring paint. Roivainen holds a Master’s of Arts in Fine Art degree from University of East London and a PhD in Art History from University of Turku.

My origins as a fisherman's son and the fact that I grew up in the countryside have certainly colored my artistic expression, not only in terms of themes, but perhaps rather when it comes to moods and reflecting my view of life in my art. In my paintings, I strive to convey something that I myself call "a longing without loss". A kind of realistic, universal and pragmatic way of tackling existential challenges. I want my paintings to primarily convey a poetic calm, an inner balance, harmony. I also want my art to be progressive in the sense that it not only asks questions but that each question in itself has an answer.

174. Leena Muuri – Design Leena Muuri

Ylönkyläntie 24, Ylönkylä
The loom is my passion. I first encountered it at the age of one when my mother was weaving rugs. The technique continued to intrigue me, and I eventually became a weaver and designer. I have woven many kinds of textiles, from rag rugs to art textiles. My inspiration comes from nature, color, light, and my own experiences in nature. It’s fascinating to express these moods and moments through the constraints and possibilities of the loom and materials. I mainly weave functional textiles. Just like old objects were once made both beautiful and practical, I want to bring beauty into everyday life through my work. My newest challenge is to create a Happy Loom Garden from an old yard—giving worn-out looms new roles.

175. Keanne van de Kreeke – Keanne art & Illustration

Savolaisentie 50, Hirsjärvi
I am Keanne van de Kreeke, a Dutch visual artist, living in Finland for 25 years now, driven by warmth, imagination, and a deep connection to the world around me. Through painting, illustration, and mixed media, I transform ordinary moments into extraordinary visual stories that speak to universal emotions and experiences. My work often explores themes of identity, connection, and nature. I use vibrant colors and intuitive forms to create pieces that invite reflection and evoke a sense of wonder. Capturing beauty in the unnoticed is what makes my art feel personal yet timeless. For me, art is more than just a form of expression—it’s a way to connect with others, share stories, and celebrate the beauty that surrounds us every day.

I am a pedagogue of manual skills and art subjects and a visual artist from Somero. I work in the courtyard building of an old country house. In my painting process, I look at historical memories that are connected to nature. The works combine the landscapes of my current and former home region: the islands of Saimaa and the fields of Somero and their small fields. Both water bodies and the soil of the fields have their own stories to tell. Strong emotional bonds are linked to these landscapes for generations - for some the landscapes in the works can be a wistful memory of childhood landscapes, for others they are part of the current stage of life or utopia.

180. Iida Ojanperä – Tuulipuuvaltakunta

Suurilantie 301, Tarvasjoki
Art always happens in connection with others; by this I mean that the artist never creates completely alone, he is accompanied by a group of people and other visible and invisible factors that help in the creation of works of art. My artistic work is like a drop of ink falling on a wet paper. The threads of the drop expand tenderly in many directions; these threads might come out as ink drawings, paintings, poetry, photography or even elf creatures standing on their own feet. Whether it’s ink drawings, poetry or some other form of artistic expression, my works are united by the same spirit. My works carry you into the phenomenal world of (human) nature and even deeper, behind them. I live and work in a place in nature, which my spouse and I call the Tulipuuvaltakunta.

Textiles—especially recycled materials—are a meaningful part of my art, as is hand-built ceramics. I have tens of thousands of photographs, from which I select images for my works. I have them printed on glass, plywood, fabric, polycarbonate, aluminum, or paper. I digitally process the images to achieve the final expression I seek. My art is a way to process and reveal hidden emotions and phenomena. I want to make the invisible visible by being part of the miracle of creation. For me, visual art is first and foremost a spiritual or mental experience, both as a creator and as a viewer. For this reason, my art focuses on abstract expression, which I consider to be the speech of the soul. I am interested in religions, mysticism, myths and mythologies, and man's place in the universe. These elements, as well as symbols, feature strongly in my art. The majority of my art is paintings and multi-techniques. In recent years I have been exploring and implementing digital art forms, combining traditional painting techniques with digital image processing.

The process of painting is important to me in my work. I paint layers on my tempera paintings, covering and erasing, over and over again. My working method is to travel back and forth, along the way, a circle of covering, erasing, washing and covering again. There is often some contradiction behind my works. On the other hand, this contradiction is often not resolved – sometimes more questions remain. Although the painting changes during the process, it always includes the previous layers and their effects on the final result. The process of creating a work is in a certain way consistent with the changes in human life. In my work, I deal with, among other things, these questions related to time and the processes of change. In addition to painting, I also make graphics and assemblages.

Later after participating in the activities of the Painthouse studio community I was encouraged, for example, to keep painting afternoons and short courses at the Wellamo college. I have lived in France for 35 years, and studied and graduated in ceramics, specialising in raku ceramics in 2012. Moved back to Finland almost 7 years ago. I create my own glazes from natural oxides, testing my own shades. Raku firing is a true source of wonder for me: it is a technique that leaves room for unexpected, uncontrollable magic. It is this very surprise that inspires me. Inspired by Finnish nature, my art is - fire, smoke, reduction - works of geometric forms, often influenced by northern animals and birds, plants. I work mainly by playing with contrasts of smoke black and glaze white, blue and green tones and the luster effects of the reduction phase of a blistering fire. The end result is always a surprise.

By surrendering to the artistic process, we can discover new possibilities, transform stagnant energy into flowing energy. Art is joy and comfort." Her pedagogical thesis was about the art process and the importance of spiritual development for the artist and the art teacher. Olga Prokhorova (born in Udmurtia, Russian Federation) is a performance artist based in Oulu and working internationally. In her art, she engages with place and works through the study of the body, movement and behavior, creating phenomena – alternative situations that people can follow and participate in. Olga explores how storytelling and mythological ways of thinking about ourselves and others affect our communication, how the body can offer new perspectives and access a personal story-world. How attention is diverted while other important things are happening at the same time, which are ignored. Prokhorova often presents her art on the streets among everyday life, in residential areas and in nature. Her works have been seen internationally in Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Russia and Mexico.

The transformation of everyday textiles into a means of visual expression in Finland in 1945–2015." I'm a pioneer in teaching expressive crafts among both children and adults. I received the North Ostrobothnia / Kainuu Arts Council Art Award in 2017. I represent modern quilt art, meaning expression and content come first, not functional textiles. For me, the building blocks of expression are, in addition to content, the way of using materials and working methods, the task of which is to support the construction of content.
