LAURA LOWE (b.1991 Vantaa) is a painter working with structural colour. Her practice investigates immaterial colours produced through the refraction of light — resembling the iridescent spectra of oil slicks. Her process is the culmination of several years of laboratory research.
A recent graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts, Lowe’s degree show was awarded the Anita Snellman Stipend. Last year, she completed her first public commission for the Hotel GLO Art competition; and received the Oskar Öflunds Grant for paintings made with coal from Hanasaari power plant. Lowe is currently working at the HIAP residency in Suomenlinna, and has been selected for the Ars Bioarctica residency at the Kilpisjärvi Biological Station, to continue research into fossil fuels and disappearing ice.
