Information about the artist / the group

Paula Holopainen lives and works in Vantaa. She graduated from the University of Helsinki with a Bachelor of Philosophy degree and from The Free School of Art as a painter. She has worked as a drawing teacher at the Free School of Art and as a painting teacher at collleges in Vantaa and Helsinki. She has held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions for 36 years.
Color is the starting point in Holopainen`s work. She paints with oil paints and egg yolk tempera on canvas and with watercolors and charcoal on paper. The picture is slowly built up in layers. The process of working is guided by observations and the free flow of inner movement. She finds abstract painting the most fascinating because in it the painter, while painting, is a seeker, just as the viewer.
