Ceramics
I primarily work with stoneware and throw both functional ceramics and larger vessels and forms. Recently, I have also started exploring porcelain as a material. I fire my works in electric kilns at Studio Nybacka or, when the opportunity arises, in a wood-fired kiln. Wood firings are almost magical occasions.
For me, ceramics is a process that involves shaping, throwing, turning, decorating, firing, glazing, and firing again. I believe there is no benefit in rushing something – it requires patience, presence, and an open mind. I hope my works carry the time, feeling, and care that I have invested in them throughout the process. In this way, I hope they radiate a calmness and clarity in their surroundings, serving as a contrast to the times we live in.
Welcome to Studio Nybacka! We will show you around, tell you about your work, and serve a nice cup of tea.
Studio Nybacka is located in the basement of the Villa Nybacka building. The entrance is on the right short side of the house seen from the gateway. There is some space for parking along Heikinniementie and at the end of Heikinniementie.
