Crafts, Textile
I am both a craft teacher and a textile artist, I had a 50th anniversary exhibition at the Kemi Art Museum in 2015, after which I started my doctoral dissertation, defended in May 2024: “The rise of quilt from the bed to the wall. The transformation of everyday textiles into a means of visual expression in Finland in 1945–2015."
I'm a pioneer in teaching expressive crafts among both children and adults. I received the North Ostrobothnia / Kainuu Arts Council Art Award in 2017. I represent modern quilt art, meaning expression and content come first, not functional textiles. For me, the building blocks of expression are, in addition to content, the way of using materials and working methods, the task of which is to support the construction of content.
