The Life on a Leaf Residence is intended for artists or researchers whose work focuses on urban space or the built environment. The fields of art are not limited.

The residence, a leaf-shaped house named Life on a Leaf, is a total work of art designed by artist Jan-Erik Andersson together with architect Erkki Pitkäranta. The house, polemicising the relationship between architecture and art, was part of Andersson’s doctoral thesis at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki. The house and its structures contain tens of works of art by Finnish and foreign artists, all commissioned in 2009 when the house was built. The resident artist in September is the American sound artist Shawn Decker, whose artwork can be found in the railing of the bridge inside the house.

Driving directions

The building can be reached by buses 51 and 53 from Turku city centre. The stop for these two lines is in the immediate vicinity of the house. Other buses to Hirvensalo stop at a distance of 1,4 km. By bicycle, the distance from the city centre is 6 km. Car parking in the yard is limited.
