Information about the artist / the group

Textileartist and Designer Svanhild Åbonde founded her brand KAPTEENSKA in Nauvo 1972 making knitted and handfelted clothes in Finnish wool. First she had her shop in Helsinki but later also shops in Åbo and Stockholm. In the 80ths and 90 ths
export to Europe and Japan. Later Svanhild had several design projects in Africa for UN, Unido, Sida and Dienste in Uebersee in Botswana, Lesotho, Zimbadwe and Nigeria.
From the year 2000 she has had her own Atelier in Grand Popo, Benin in West Africa, where she is making her collections in batik techniques together with local artists for three months a year.

Program during Konstrundan

In Kaptensgården, a former schoolhouse, you can find a shop with Design Svanhild Åbondes personal clothes, jewelries and
interior textiles, as well as an exhibition with African textile art that Svanhild has collected during her travels. Her home and atelier can also be visited. Coffee and snacks are served in the café.
