This Year’s Art Assignment: bearer of light - A Summer Memory
Art Friday will take place on 6 November 2026. Once again, the event will present a short video introducing an art-related assignment for children. This year’s art assignment, Bearer of Light - a summer memory, invites participants to revisit the past summer: a swim, an excursion, or another pleasant memory or moment. Use available recycled materials or collect cones, sticks, and stones from nature. Reflect on your memories by making marks on paper, fabric, or cardboard, or by creating a sculptural object inspired by your memories. Use different colours and shapes.

The artist of the year
The featured artist for Art Friday 2026 is Marjo Pitko (Master of Fine Arts). She works as a fine art printmaker and visual arts educator in Meri-Lappi, and her work combines themes such as the sea, the river, and the rhythm of northern nature. Her artistic expression emerges through an interplay of drawing, painting, and photography, printmaking tying these elements into a cohesive whole. Alongside her artistic practice, she inspires people of all ages to engage with visual art.
