ART FRIDAY 2024

09.04.2025 hrs 10:16
We hope to see many children and young people participate in this year's art activities led by Anu Nurminoro and Mari Erävaara from Tuuru Tulenpesä.

Since 2012, Konstrundan has also organised activities for children and young people. The aim is to give a positive image of creative professions and to inspire children to create. We hope to see many children and young people participate in this year's art activities led by Anu Nurminoro and Mari Erävaara from Tuuru Tulenpesä.

art assignment for children - “Enchantment”

In this assignment, children will explore shapes inspired by nature and learn how to create sculptures using clay. Each child is encouraged to find an interesting object from nature, such as a twig, cone or stone, and use it as inspiration for their sculpture. Different clay materials and tools are used, which can be found at home or school. The exercise aims to see the beauty that nature itself creates and express it through clay.

INSTRUCTIONS and a video tutorial are available in English, Swedish and Finnish. Mari Erävaara and Anu Nurminoro present the assignemnt to children and share their tips and inspirations.

MATERIALS NEEDED

  • Clay, natural clay, Darwi clay or similar hardening clay
  • Work platform: Piece of wood, cutting board or the back of a vinyl tablecloth
  • Tools from the kitchen: Knife, spoon, fork, rolling pin, empty jar or clay sculpting tools from school

Clay can also be worked without tools if they are not available.

TuruN Tuulenpesä

Anu Nurminoro is a 55-year-old ceramist, carpenter, antique technician and clay builder. Her passion for clay began after her carpentry studies and she specialises in large ceramic sculptures and clay paintings. Anu has taught ceramics for almost 30 years in various educational institutions and at Tuulenpesä.

Mari Erävaara, a 53-year-old visual artist from Turku, is also a gardener, stonemason and clay builder. She was inspired by clay through her gardening work and uses it in her sculptures and paintings. Mari and Anu form the working group "Under Construction," which explores philosophical issues and social themes through ecological and recycled materials.

"Throw the clay onto the table, start moulding it and watch it teach you the importance of patience and surprise," Mari and Anu say about the assignment.

During Konstrundan, Anu and Mari will welcome visitors at Turun Tuulenpesä in Turku, a few blocks from the Aura river.

Group visits to studios!

On the day before Konstrundan, some of the participants open their studios to the public for group visits. Visit the artist in their studio with your preschool group, class, or organization.
