Since 2012, Konstrundan has also organised activities for children and young people. The aim is to give a positive image of creative professions and to inspire children to create.
This year we are organising Konstens fredag (Art Friday) in the same format as last year. A video will be produced featuring an artist presenting themselves, followed by an art-related assignment for children.
The video will be sent to all primary schools in Finland. It will be recorded in Finnish and dubbed into both Swedish and English. The assignment will be launched in the autumn via Youtube and konstrundan.fi.
This year’s art task is Colours from the Kitchen! Alejandra Löthman shows how children can paint with ingredients like red cabbage, beetroot, turmeric, coffee, lemon, and vinegar. It’s a playful experiment where acids meet bases, and kids discover that color exists everywhere – not just in stores but also in their own kitchen.
INSTRUCTIONS and video tutorial available in English, Swedish and Finnish on November 6th.
Red cabbage, beetroot, spinach, turmeric, instant coffee, lemon, vinegar, salt, water, baking powder/soda.
TOOLS Bowls, brushes/cotton swabs, white paper.
TIPS No brushes? Use fingers! No paper? Use cardboard, coffee filters or fabric. No red cabbage? Try blueberries!
Alejandra Löthman is an artist and educator based in Åland. At her art café in Mariehamn, children and families are free to mix, play, and create. Guided by curiosity, she sometimes paints with coffee, sometimes 3D prints with clay. Her art shifts between the playful and the profound.
On the day before Konstrundan, some of the participants open their studios to the public for group visits. Visit the artist in their studio with your preschool group, class, or organization.
Teachers or parents are invited to upload photos of their children's artwork to Instagram.
